Early-life perspective
MBBS and MD in Pediatrics, followed by five years as a Lecturer in Pediatrics at Grant Medical College and JJ Hospital, Mumbai.
With a medical career spanning more than four decades across India and the United States, Dr. Vinaya Bhagwat represents a rare combination of clinical experience, academic excellence, and lifelong commitment to learning.
After completing her MBBS and MD in Pediatrics from Government Medical College, Aurangabad, she served as a Lecturer at Grant Medical College and JJ Hospital, Mumbai. She later moved to the United States, completed residency in Internal Medicine, and went on to practice for over 25 years across outpatient, inpatient, and intensive-care settings.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, she has maintained her board certification for over 30 years—an enduring testament to her commitment to professional excellence. Only 26.3% of ABIM Board Certified physicians have been certified for as long as she has or longer.
Her years of caring for critically ill patients deepened her understanding of the powerful influence of lifestyle on disease. This inspired her to pursue Lifestyle Medicine, becoming board-certified in 2022. Recognizing that psychology is not routinely taught as part of the conventional medical curriculum, she made an additional effort to develop this dimension of her expertise by undertaking several courses in psychology across different stages of life. This has equipped her with a deeper understanding of human behaviour, mindset, motivation, and the psychological factors that often lie at the root of unhealthy lifestyle choices and lifestyle-related diseases. She believes that meaningful and lasting change requires not only medical advice, but also an understanding of the person behind the illness.
Today, she brings together her expertise in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine, and psychology with a deeply held belief that the greatest achievement in medicine is not merely treating disease, but helping people understand themselves, prevent illness, and live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

LifestyleFirst.in reflects Dr. Vinaya Bhagwat’s belief that lifestyle can be the first medicine. Her aim is to teach practical, sustainable skills rather than promote products — empowering people to build healthy habits and make informed lifestyle choices. Her approach places healthy lifestyle practices first, complemented by medicines when needed, for the best possible outcomes. The same principle extends across primordial, primary and secondary prevention of chronic disease, as well as the promotion of lifelong wellness.
